Exploring The Finger Lakes Region

The Finger Lakes Region of Upstate New York has a certain kind of magic to it. Sunrises over Seneca Lake have a special glow and the snow-covered hillsides of Naples are postcard perfect. The eleven-lake region includes a few cities, so it isn’t just winding roads and forest land. That’s part of what makes it great–you can hit a city and a rural backroad all before even having lunch.

This region is one of the largest in Upstate, so finding things is easy. There’s world class museums like the Corning Museum of Glass and small, lesser known museums like the Drain Tile Museum in Geneva. You can boat and swim on most of the lakes, or ice fish on them in the winter. The rolling hills of changing leaves in the autumn is a photographer’s dream and nearly everyone is excited for the budding blossoms of spring.

The Finger Lakes is now regarded as one of the best wine regions in the nation. It’s quickly becoming a destination for craft beer drinkers, and there’s even locally produced hard cider, mead, and distilled products. You can spend an entire day touring just one lake of wineries and still not have time to hit them all. To match the beverage trail, there are countless chefs in this region who are creating farm-to-table menus fit for even the most discerning foodie.

Whether you’re looking for a cityscape of history and museums in Rochester, or wanting to pick up handmade pastries at an Amish market in Penn Yan, you’ll find it all right here.
