Exploring The Central New York Region

The Central New York Region is home to some of the most beautiful stretches of land in Upstate New York. It also happens to have some our greatest museums, with plenty more to explore around each one.

In this region you’ll discover Cooperstown, which is famed as the birthplace of baseball, but also remembers its most famous resident James Fenimore Cooper, whose father settled here in the 18th century. Cooper included the beauty of the land surrounding Otsego Lake in his famous Leatherstocking Tales, a series of books that includes the Last of the Mohicans.

Though the wide open landscapes are a postcard of some sections, there’s city streets in Utica, casinos for gambling and entertainment in Oneida and Chittenango, and even one of the largest classic car museums in the nation right in Norwich.

You can hike around state parks and go chasing waterfalls, then grab a classic Chicken Riggies dish all in the same day. There are museums like the Oneida Community Mansion and even what is reportedly the smallest church in the world an easy car ride from one another.

Whether you’re looking to explore history, walk city streets, or get away into the woods for a bit, you’ll be able to find it all right in the CNY! Settle in with a pizza from the second oldest pizzeria in New York State, and learn more about the adventures awaiting you here.
